A few weeks ago I received an email from Randall House Publications: would I mind reviewing a new book they have published? Not at all; give me a free book and I’ll read it and share my thoughts on this blog.
First Aid for Emotional Hurts: Helping People Through Difficult Times by Edward Moody is a short (230 pages) paperback written for lay-counselors. Dr. Moody’s intended audience appears to be elders, deacons, small group leaders, and others in a congregation that interact with hurting people. In other words, it is written for every Christian.
Key concepts covered are:
- What to do when you don’t know what to do.
- What to do when you are in over your head.
- Real Faith
- Getting proactive: developing resilience
- When getting down gets dangerous.
- Breaking the deadly cycle.
- Helping people with problems we do not understand
- Helping people overcome grief and loss
- Helping people survive and thrive
- helping families survive and thrive
Edward (Eddie) Moody has a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University in Counselor Education, a M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University and a B.A. in Pastoral Training from Free Will Bible Baptist College. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina. Dr. Moody is the pastor of Tippett’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and a faculty member of the Department of Counselor Education at North Carolina State University.
In addition to the book, Dr. Moody has a free discussion guide available for download at his web site.
I’m looking forward to reading this book and will be posting a chapter-by-chapter review in the coming weeks.
